Membership

All meetings last from 8 pm to 10 pm at St Michael's and from 8pm until they kick us out at The White Hart (or other venue).

Meetings are free to attend for members. There is a visitor fee of £3 for most meetings at St Michael's and The White Hart; £5 when we have a speaker. Visitors who subsequently join Verulam Writers will have their visitor's fee deducted from the annual membership fee (see the Fees page on this website).

Constitution

Verulam Writers adopted a new constitution in 2013.

It is a condition of membership that members respect and protect the intellectual property and creative efforts of fellow members and visitors to VW.

Visitors to VW are also required to respect and protect the creative efforts of VW members and other visitors and this is a condition of attending meetings – the only condition other than paying the visitor's fee. There are no requirements to read and visitors are most welcome to come simply to get a flavour of our activities

Meetings

We hold regular workshops, talks and manuscript evenings (where you can receive friendly, constructive feedback on your work) designed to help new and experienced writers improve their work. Writers from all strands of literary endeavour, published or otherwise, are welcomed to our very friendly group.

Manuscript Evenings

Bring along your work in progress for constructive criticism.

Guest speakers

Guest speakers present talks on many aspects of writing craft. Recent speakers have included magazine editors, novelists, screenwriters, and sitcom writers. Our programme is challenging and entertaining.
